Hello!

I hope you are going well and looking after yourself x

Here is the latest Kindness News.

Enjoy 😊

Townsville is indeed a kind place to live…

I am super-excited to announce that Donna Glass from Helen Munro Property is now sponsoring The Kindness Catalyst.

Thank you Donna!! This means a great deal to me, because it enables us to keep all our events either free or low cost.

If you’d like to follow Donna on fb here’s the link… https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083266896050

*Additionally, if you list with Donna because of her sponsorship, she’ll also donate $150 to a Kind Café Pay it Forward board when the property settles!

I love this!

I recently met two lovely ladies- Kate and her Mum Maureen.

We were really on the same page with our approach to community development and they are keen to help at events.

I am very grateful as they are both busy ladies.

Kate is also a psychologist and will be doing some writing for our newsletter in the future, so we can look forward to that.

We were again invited by Jack and Dannii to speak on Star 106.3.

I am always impressed by how kind they are, both on and off the air.

They were really keen to get some more ‘Pocket Hug’ cards to give away and brighten someone’s day.

We chatted about the upcoming Out of the Shadows and into the Light Suicide Prevention Day and RUOK Day.

Thanks team- much appreciated!

Speaking of which…

we were invited to participate in the Suicide Prevention and Remembrance Walk on the Strand, inviting people to share their memories on canvas, in albums or with rock painting.

This was quite emotional for all concerned and I felt very privileged to hear about many precious loved ones.

If you’re in crisis and want to speak with a Crisis Supporter, you can call 13 11 14, text 0477 131 114 or chat to Lifeline online at www.lifeline.org.au 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Later that week…

we hosted an RUOK Day event at our Kind Café, Missy Moos Café.

It was really well attended by people from all walks of life (I love that kindness has no fixed demographic).

Thanks so much to the friendly people who went out of their way to help welcome and include others.

It was really heartening to see everyone participating and connecting.

We had a chat about RUOK Day and handed out some resources, wrote on some Pocket Hug cards to give to random strangers and friends and then had a blast doing whole-group Pictionary and Charades.

And someone (who shall not be named) donated $50 to Missy Moos Pay it Forward board!!!

So what’s happening in October?

Next week we have a Mental Health Week Mood-booster event at Missy Moos Café 10-12noon Tuesday (410 Ross River Rd, Cranbrook)

  • Angel Paws Dog and Cat Rescue is bringing some animals to cuddle (thanks Sarah! Donations will be accepted)
  • We’re making Random Act of Kindness Packs
  • And we’re playing Feel Good Bingo (with prizes)

Kindness Week is November 11-17

and there’s lots of exciting things happening!

  1. Wed Nov 13 is World Kindness Day and we’ll be Kindness Bombing around town all day (more details to come)
  2. 1-4pm Saturday November 17 we’re having Christmas Art Market to launch The Kindness Catalyst Merchandise.

I can’t wait to show you our new merch- we’ll have shirts and Kindness Activity Packs and Pick-me-up Packs, which we’ll use to fund our kindness activities.

And we’ll have stalls from 4 local artists- 2 potters: Happy Clay and Treadles and Trinkets, plus Danya’s Designs (Danya designs our Pocket Hug cards and is a children’s book illustrator, local digital art teacher and artist) and Maggie O Digital Art (who is both an artist and an adult and children’s author and illustrator).

They’ll be telling us how they got into art and sharing their favourite pieces.

It would be great if you could come along to support this event, the other artists and our Kind Café, Sticks and Grinds Café.

And we really appreciate you sharing this.

And you get the first scoop about our Kindness Poetry Competition!

You’re invited to write a poem about Kindness.

We’ll be choosing 3 finalists to post online and be read aloud at the Merch Launch/ Art Market.

We’ll invite the public to choose their favourite (both online and at the event) and then we’ll announce the winner who will receive a Kindness Catalyst shirt plus either a Pick-me-up Pack or a Kindness Activity Pack.

They will also be featured on the Townsville Poetry Facebook Page.

Please email entries to fiona@thekindnesscatalyst.com.au before Nov 9.

Happy writing 😊

Below are some pics of the RUOK Day event and some of the art available at the Christmas Art Market.

Thanks so much for subscribing and helping spread kindness

Whether you participate or simply spread the word, it makes the world a brighter place for all of us.

It’s scientifically proven that just hearing about/ observing an act of kindness significantly increases all your happy hormones and makes you more likely to Pay it Forward.

How good is that?!

Take care x

Fiona
